Since 1973, The Renaissance Street Singers of New York, directed by John Hetland, have sung polyphonic music from the late 15th century to the early 17th a cappella on the sidewalks and in the public spaces of New York City. The motivation is love for the music and the wish to share it. Concerts are usually two Sunday afternoons a month, always free.
We sing motets, Psalms, Magnificats, mass sections, hymns, and other sacred music by Guillaume Du Fay, Jean de Ockeghem, Josquin des Prez, Ludwig Senfl, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, William Byrd, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Manuel Cardoso, and their contemporaries. Click on items to the left to learn where you can hear us, what we sing, or how to join. Listen to our music, and review the FAQ. If you like, add a comment or a question to our Guestbook, or just see what others have written. If you have time, browse in the Pictures, watch a Video (complete recent Loft Concerts are available) or check out the Links. See also: Chelsea Life magazine cover story, November 2013.
